2018’s Diabetes, Healthy Eating & Men’s Health Awareness Week!

Diabetes Health Week

*Diabetes Week* is an annual highlight in the Diabetes UK calendar, as it’s a time when supporters are brought together to raise awareness of the condition.

CAN DIABETES BE REVERSED? Check out ‘The Fast Fix: Diabetes‘ on ITV 9pm – 10pm, let’s see what they show.

The BBC’s ‘The Truth about Carbs’ programme made national headlines  last week for good reasons! Dr Xand van Tulleken reminded us that “green carbs” such as salad greens and lentils are generally significantly healthier than “beige carbs” such as pasta and potatoes, and “white carbs” such as rice and biscuits. Most of the starch and sugar in these beige and white carbs are broken down into glucose for energy too quickly and cause energy ups and downs. When excessive glucose is consumed and not used by the body, the glucose is then stored as fat. Abdominal obesity is a risk factor for developing diabetes.

British Nutrition Foundation Healthy Eating Week

There are five health challenges are at the heart of *BNF Healthy Eating Week*: 1) Have Breakfast ? ; 2) Have 5 A Day l ?; 3) Drink plenty ?; 4) Get active ?‍♂️; and 5) Try something new ? ! Sounds good to me ?.

Men’s Health Week

Led by the Men’s Health Forum, the purpose of *Men’s Health Week* is to raise awareness of preventable health issues and encourage men and boys to seek professional advice for health-related problems. Inner strength is as important as outer strength. Look after yourself! It doesn’t matter what other people think of you, but what does matter is that you feel well and are well. Seek the support that you need.
